Not fewer than 22 insurgents and four soldiers were killed when members of the Boko Haram sect clashed with troops at Logomani, along the Dikwa-Gamboru Ngala Road in Borno State on Sunday.
The Acting Director, Army Public Relations, Col. Sani Usman, said in an electronic mail on Sunday that the Boko Haram insurgents used 36 hand grenades and rocket propelled launchers in the attack which took place around 1.00 am on Sunday.
He said two other soldiers who were injured in the attack were evacuated from the operational area for medical attention.
He said the troops repelled the attack which lasted one hour and recovered two AK-47 rifles, one FN rifle, one G3 rifle and some 36 hand grenades.
The acting army spokesman said the troops also lost four rifles because of the use of rocket propelled grenades by the insurgents.
He said troops on reinforcement in the location had commenced a clearance operation against the insurgents.
“At about 1.00am today, Sunday September 25, 2016, some suspected remnants of Boko Haram fighters attacked our troops’ location at Logomani along Dikwa-Gambarou Road, Borno State, in a three-wave attack using 36 hand grenades and rocket propelled launchers.
“Our troops fought gallantly and repelled the attack which lasted for about one hour. At the end of the fierce encounter, the troops counted 22 dead bodies of Boko Haram fighter. They also recovered two AK-47 rifles, one FN rifle, one G3 rifle and some 36 hand grenades.
“Unfortunately, our troops lost four soldiers and their rifles as a result of the effect of Boko Haram’s use of rocket propelled grenades, while two soldiers were wounded in action. Those wounded in action had been evacuated for further medical management.
“The location had been reinforced and replenished while the troops continued their clearance operations.”
