There has been tension at the University of Ibadan after a terror sect, al-wilayat al-Islamiyya Gharb Afriqiyyah, threatened to bomb the institution before the October 1 Independence Day celebration.

The management of the University of Ibadan has beefed up security in the institution following the threats by a terror sect, al-wilayat al-Islamiyya Gharb Afriqiyyah, to bomb the premier institution before the October 1 Independence Day celebration.

The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that university’s director of communication, Olatunji Oladejo, said on Wednesday, September 28, that the university was not taking the threat for granted.

The Oladejo explained that the security measure put in place was not to make life unbearable for the university community through the recent screening exercise introduced at the institution’s gates.

He said that the campus security service had been complementing the efforts of other security agencies in ensuring security on the campus.

“What we are trying to do is to avert any unpleasant situation in the university,” he said.

However some students of the institution told NAN that since there was nothing they could do about the threats but resort to divine intervention.

Recall that there was a circulation, on Friday afternoon, September 23, by terrorists who threatened to wreck monumental havoc through ceaseless bombings of the institution, beginning from Saturday, September 24.

This Day reported that the institution was threatened by terrorists for being the first university in the country that brought in and entrenched western education in Nigeria.
