Gunmen ignore El-Rufai’s Public Apology Billboard, kill 31 in Southern Kaduna
Just a day after Governor Nasir el-Rufai launched a public apology billboard signifying understanding, peace and unity among the various ethnic groups in Southern Kaduna, about 31 people have been reportedly killed by unknown gunmen in Kauru Local Government Area of Kaduna State.
The list made available to DAILY POST indicates that 2 people were killed at Ungwan Rimi, 1 was killed at Kitakum, 17 killed at Ungwan Magaji and 11 were killed in Kigam community
An eye witness told DAILY POST in Kidam community that no single house was left untouched while two survivors are currently receiving treatment in a hospital.
In Chawai chiefdom in Kamaru Ward, about 13 people were reportedly killed.
The four communities of Ungwan Rimi, Kitakum, Ungwan Magaji and Kigam all in Kauru LGA were attacked on Sunday with men, women including little children killed while about 46 houses were burnt.
Residents in conjunction with the leadership of the Southern Kaduna Peoples Union (SOKAPU) have compiled a list of lives lost and houses that were destroyed during the attack.
It would be recalled that El-Rufai while unveiling the Public Apology Billboard stressed, “This state belongs to everybody that has choisen to make it a home. Let us respect each other, abide by the law, do our duty to uphold harmony and firmly reject division and violence.”
The Police and the Kaduna state government are yet to make an official statement concerning the latest killings.
