The police authorities  have confirmed the arrest of four suspects in connection with the abduction of five pupils and three teachers of Nigerian Turkish International Colleges on January 13, 2017, in Isheri, Ogun State.

The Nigeria Police Force spokesman, Donald Awunah, said the police also recovered a cash sum of N1.2m from one of the suspects, Bekewei Agbojule, aka Prince Yellow, 29, when he came out from the creeks.

He gave the name of other suspects as Philip Kakadu, aka General Kakadu, a militant leader, Romeo Council, aka Raw and Totki Okoda.

PUNCH Metro had reported on Thursday that sources said the police had so far arrested four prime suspects, including Raw and General Kakadu.

Awunah on Thursday in Abuja said Okoda, who resided in the creeks behind the school at the Ijaw fishermen settlement, provided information to the gang about the school and the victims.

Awunah said the IGP Intelligence Response Team, working in synergy with the Tactical Intelligence Unit of the Force, in a joint operation supervised by AIG Kayode Aderanti, AIG Zone 2, Lagos, successfully smashed the kidnap gang.

He said, “In the course of investigation into the kidnap, three suspects namely, Kakadu, Council and  Okoda, who lived in the fishermen’s community behind the school and provided information about the victims to his gang, were trailed and arrested at different locations in Delta, Ogun and Lagos states for the criminal roles they played in the crime.”

According to the police, further investigation and sustained pursuit of the matter by the IRT led to the arrest of  Agbojule, a principal suspect and one of the key members of the gang, on January 25 at about 7am.

“The suspect, who is an Ijaw from Arogbo town in Ondo State, was arrested after he came out of the creeks to enjoy his loot.

“About N1.2m, which was his share of the ransom, was recovered from him. The four suspects have confessed to the crime, volunteered useful statements to investigators and are cooperating with the police.

“Concerted efforts are being made to arrest the remaining suspects who are at large. All the suspects will be arraigned in court on completion of investigation,” Awunah added.
