Bayelsa adopts whistle-blower policy to uncover hidden arms

 25th April 2017

Yenagoa: Commissioner of Police, Bayelsa State Command, Mr. Asuquo Amba, said the command would adopt the whistle-blower policy to uncover hidden arms and ammunition kept by criminals in the state.

Yenagoa, the state capital and its environs, had been gripped by armed attacks by suspected armed robbers, cultists and sea-pirates in recent weeks, which raised serious concerns for the police hierarchy in the state, especially the sophisticated weapons being used by the bandits.

Amba said it was necessary so that members of the public could come forward with useful information that can help the Police fish out the hoodlums and where they are keeping the arms being used.

The police commissioner, commended Bayelsans for the support given to the command since his assumption of duty, which has helped greatly in the fight against crime. He said in line with the zero tolerance for crime and criminality of the Governor Seriake Dickson administration, he had vowed that the Police would flush out criminals in the state.

According to him, the police/community relations and synergy with Bayelsans would ensure the success of the whistle-blower policy to expose hidden arms and ammunition in the state.

Meanwhile, the police have reiterated its determination to ensure the arrest of killers of Mr. Famous Giobaro, a desk editor of Bayelsa State-owned radio station, Glory FM.

Investigations revealed that the police are working on a lead, which the crack team of detectives assigned to the case are keeping to their chest in order not to jeopardise investigations.

Sources at the Bayelsa command said the Police Force Headquarters was following the progress of the case, which made the Deputy Inspector General of Police, Training and Development and DIG in charge of South-South, Mr. Emmanuel Inyang, during his visit to Bayelsa to commiserate with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) and assured that the police would get to the root of the incident and bring the killers to book.
